about

This track was written as a way to voice my anger and frustration for the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and the many other black lives lost at the hands of law enforcement. North Nashville artist Elisheba Israel Mrozik graciously lent her amazing piece of art, "Unmask "Em," to accompany this track. “It tackles the ages old myth of, ‘It’s all your fault. You need to pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ … and stereotypes and tropes that are laid upon people of color every day,” Mrozik said.

100% of proceeds from this track will be donated to Gideon's Army, based out of North Nashville, Tennessee. Gideon’s Army is a community-based, grassroots organization that uses restorative justice programs to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline through social activism by children, families, and the community. Our programs address school-push-out, youth violence, policing, and juvenile justice.

Thank you for listening. BLACK LIVES MATTER.

lyrics

It's on your face. The lies.
Passed down through time.
Our fathers take the blame, but hate still resides.
Ignorance stays ingrained.
How long?

These trees are old. The branches bruised.
Pull the roots. Remove the noose.

The burden's always on their back.
And oh what a vast veil.
The dreadful shadow we must get past.
There's a cycle buried deep within us.

It's the reason that there's mistrust.
The whip hand now wields handcuffs.

Realize!
Believe!
The cries of all of those who've lost their own.
Can't breathe!
Provide your hands for work yet to be done.
Redeem!
